“The past doesn’t have to define your future.” — Lynette Eason

About This Episode

Lynette Eason on Twilight Tactics: Faith, Suspense, and Found Family at Broken Chains Ranch

Bestselling author Lynette Eason returns to the LiteraryScape Podcast this week. She’s here to talk about Twilight Tactics, the first book in her brand-new Soldiers and Shadows series. Fans of Christian romantic suspense will find everything they love in this story: danger, faith, and a hero worth rooting for.

Meet Lynette Eason, Author of Over 70 Novels

With more than seventy published novels, Lynette Eason knows how to keep readers turning pages. She writes romantic suspense for Revell. Beyond writing, she juggles roles as a mom, wife, literary agent, and conference director. Fresh ideas, she says, come from brainstorming with fellow authors. Every new series brings its own excitement, and that excitement keeps her creativity alive book after book.

Inside Twilight Tactics: An FBI Agent, a Survivalist, and a Teen in Danger

Twilight Tactics introduces FBI agent Colin “Sully” Sullivan. He arrives at Broken Chains Ranch to protect a teenage witness named Ollie, short for Olivia. Ollie witnessed a mob hit and now needs round-the-clock protection. Sully partners with Elena Thompson, a survival expert and self-defense coach with a complicated past. Elena grew up inside a prepper community that functioned more like a cult. That background shaped her into someone who knows how to prepare for anything, and now she’s teaching Ollie to do the same.

Broken Chains Ranch: A Setting Built for Healing

The ranch at the center of the series offers more than scenery. It exists as a place for veterans to recover from trauma, including PTSD. Eason wanted a peaceful, outdoorsy setting where hard work and healing could coexist. She named it Broken Chains Ranch after a line from the hymn “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone).” That connection gives the whole series its emotional core.

The Research Behind a High-Stakes Siege

Later in the book, the characters find themselves completely cut off from the outside world. Pulling that off in a modern setting isn’t easy, since cell signals and satellite features make true isolation rare. To solve the problem, Eason consulted an FBI agent friend. Together, they worked out how the ranch could realistically lose both cell and satellite communication at once. Details like this show just how much research goes into every book she writes.

Faith, Hope, and the Themes Behind Soldiers and Shadows

Several themes run through Twilight Tactics: survival, found family, trust under pressure, and second chances. One idea shows up again and again in Eason’s work: the past doesn’t have to define the future. She hopes every reader closes the book with more hope than when they opened it. No matter how difficult life gets, her stories point toward the truth that healing is possible with God’s help.

What’s Next for the Soldiers and Shadows Series

Twilight Tactics is only the beginning. Book two, Missing Asset, introduces Felicity Bowman, who runs the ranch’s canine training program. Book three, Zero Hour, is already turned in and follows a character named Evie. A fourth book will complete the series, featuring heroine Rachel Evans. Readers who want a head start can also check out White Out, a novella collection that includes Eason’s prequel story about Maya and Gideon, the couple who founded Broken Chains Ranch.

Where to Pre-Order Twilight Tactics

Twilight Tactics releases August 4. Readers can pre-order through Amazon, Baker Book House (which offers 40% off the paperback plus free shipping), or ChristianBook.com.
