Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information LiteraryScape collects when you use https://literaryscape.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, please contact us (see "Contact us" below).

Who we are

LiteraryScape (https://literaryscape.com) is owned and operated by LiteraryScape LLC, an Indiana limited liability company ("LiteraryScape," "we," "us," or "our"). LiteraryScape LLC is also the sponsor of giveaways we run, including our Christmas giveaway.

What we collect and how

Orders (our shop)

When you buy from our shop, we collect the information needed to process and deliver your order: your name, email address, billing address, shipping address, phone number (optional), any order note you add, and the items you bought. You can check out as a guest or create an account at checkout.

At checkout our store also records how you arrived at the site (for example, the referring website, campaign tags in the link, and the first page you visited) so we can understand which channels bring customers to us. This is stored with your order.

Payments

Card payments, and the Link, Klarna and Affirm payment options, are handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered into Stripe's secure payment form and go directly to Stripe; we do not see or store your full card number. We receive limited payment details from Stripe, such as whether the payment succeeded. Stripe also uses its own fraud-prevention tools when you pay.

Accounts and Book Club membership

If you create an account or join the LiteraryScape Book Club, we collect your first and last name, username, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), and billing address. Membership payments are processed by Stripe. We keep a record of your membership plan, its status, and your payments.

Community (member profiles and forums)

Book Club members have a community profile and can take part in our members' discussion board and groups. Your profile includes your name and anything else you choose to add. Posts, replies, and other activity you share in the community are visible to other members.

Comments

If you leave a comment on the site, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Comments may be checked by Akismet, an automated spam-filtering service from Automattic.

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address. Our newsletter is run by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), which stores your details and sends our emails. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.

Giveaways

When you enter a giveaway (such as our Christmas giveaway, run through KingSumo), you give us your first name and email address, or you can enter using "Enter with Google." If you win, we ask for your full name and U.S. mailing address so we can deliver your prize.

The entry form includes an optional checkbox reading "I agree to receive promotional and marketing emails." Ticking it isn't required to enter or win. If you tick it, you agree to receive email newsletters from LiteraryScape and from each participating author listed in that giveaway's official rules: your email address is added to the LiteraryScape newsletter (managed in Kit) and shared with each participating author for that purpose only. If you don't tick it, your email address is used only to run the giveaway, including contacting you if you win.

Whether or not the winner ticked the box, we share the winner's name and mailing address with the participating authors donating print books, and the winner's email address with those donating digital or audio books. They use it only to send the prize. The official rules for each giveaway explain how winners are chosen and contacted.

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject, and your message. When you submit it, your message is sent to us by email and stored on our website so we can reply. Our footer sign-up form asks only for your email address, which is also stored on our website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site, such as which pages are visited, how long visits last, and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics is set up on our site through two WordPress plugins, MonsterInsights and Site Kit by Google. It uses cookies and collects information such as your device, browser, IP address, and the pages you view. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. Our site and the services it uses set cookies such as:

Shopping cart and session cookies (WooCommerce) to remember what is in your cart and keep you signed in.
Order-source cookies (WooCommerce order attribution) that remember how you arrived at the site for the order information described above.
Login cookies (WordPress) if you have an account and sign in.
Performance and hosting cookies set by our caching software (LiteSpeed Cache) and our host's content delivery network (Hostinger).
Payment and fraud-prevention cookies set by Stripe on pages where you can pay.
Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics (for example, _ga cookies).
Cookies set by embedded forms, such as our Kit newsletter form.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block them, some parts of the site, such as the cart, checkout, and member login, may not work.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages include content from other websites, such as newsletter sign-up forms (Kit), payment forms (Stripe), and fonts (Google Fonts). Embedded content behaves as if you had visited the other website, and that website may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

process, ship, and deliver your orders, including ebooks;
take payments and prevent fraud;
run your account and Book Club membership;
run the member community;
send our newsletter, if you signed up;
run giveaways, contact winners and deliver their prizes, and share entrants' email addresses with participating authors when you consent;
reply to your messages;
understand how our site is used and improve it;
keep our site secure and filter spam; and
meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run LiteraryScape, and with participating authors when you consent in a giveaway or when you win a giveaway prize:

Stripe processes card, Link, Klarna, and Affirm payments for shop orders and memberships.
BookFunnel delivers ebooks. When you place an order, your order details, including your name and email address, are sent to BookFunnel so it can deliver your ebook.
Ingram prints and ships some of our print books directly to customers. For those orders we send Ingram your name and shipping address.
Printful produces and ships our merchandise. When an order is placed, our store notifies Printful so it can make and ship any merchandise in that order.
Kit (formerly ConvertKit) runs our newsletter and stores subscriber details.
KingSumo runs our giveaway entry forms and stores entries. It adds entrants who tick the consent box to our Kit newsletter.
Participating authors receive the email addresses of giveaway entrants who tick the consent box, for their newsletters only. They also receive the winner's name and mailing address (print books) or email address (digital or audio books), only to send the prize.
Google provides website analytics (Google Analytics) and fonts (Google Fonts).
Hostinger hosts our website, and the information described in this policy is stored on its servers.
Automattic (Akismet) checks comments for spam.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.

How long we keep it

Orders: we keep order records for 3 years for accounting and tax records.
Accounts and memberships: we keep your account while it is active and for 3 months after it is closed.
Newsletter: we keep your email address until you unsubscribe.
Giveaway entries: entries from entrants who don't tick the consent box are deleted from our records 30 days after the giveaway ends. KingSumo keeps entries on its own platform under its own policy. Entrants who tick the box stay on our newsletter until they unsubscribe, and each participating author's own policy governs the email addresses shared with them.
Contact form messages: we keep messages for as long as we need to respond, then delete them periodically.
Comments: comments and their information stay on the site until they are deleted.
Backups: copies of site data may remain in our website backups, which are kept according to our host's rolling backup schedule.

Your rights and choices

Unsubscribe: you can stop our newsletter at any time with the unsubscribe link in any email.
Giveaway sharing: you choose whether your email address goes to participating authors by ticking, or not ticking, the consent box. If you win, the details needed to send your prize go to the authors either way. To stop hearing from an author after that, unsubscribe from that author's emails directly.
Update your details: if you have an account, you can update your details on your account page.
Access, export, and deletion: you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. Our site uses WordPress's built-in personal data tools: we can send you an export of your data, or erase it. For security, we will email you a confirmation link before we act on a request. Email literaryscape@literaryscape.com to make a request.
Information we may need to keep: some information, such as order records, may be kept when we have a legal, tax, or accounting reason to do so.
Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser, and opt out of Google Analytics as described above.

Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under the law.

Children

Our site is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information. Our site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and payments are handled by Stripe so we never see your full card number. No website or online service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. If we make significant changes, we may also let you know by email or with a notice on the site.
