About This Episode
Deadly Currents by Elizabeth Goddard: A Christian Suspense Finale to the Hidden Bay Series
The Hidden Bay series has come to a close. Elizabeth Goddard’s Deadly Currents delivers the ending readers have been waiting for. On this episode of the LiteraryScape Podcast, we dive into this Christian romantic suspense novel and share our honest thoughts.
A Journalist, a Ghost Ship, and a Secret Worth Killing For
Investigative journalist Krista Dane arrives in Hidden Bay with one goal. She wants to finish her late father’s manuscript about local shipwrecks. Along the way, she starts digging into the legend of the Specter’s Bounty, a ghost ship tied to a name her father left behind. Soon, though, her research puts her directly in danger.
Enter County Detective Braden Sanders. He is assigned to protect Krista from an enemy driven by revenge. His real motivation, however, runs deeper. Braden needs his young niece to receive lifesaving medical treatment, and protecting Krista is part of the deal. Together, the pair start uncovering myths, facts, and a web of secrets stretching back years.
Small Details That Make a Big Difference
We loved noticing the little touches Goddard wove into this story. For instance, Krista drinks her coffee black, while Braden prefers his sweetened. That is a fun reversal of the usual stereotype, and it stood out to us immediately. Details like this make the characters feel real instead of generic.
Faith also shows up in unexpected, meaningful moments. At one point, Braden pauses in a public restaurant to ask if he can say grace before the meal. It is a small gesture, but it says a lot about his character. Moments like these remind readers that Goddard’s suspense never comes at the expense of heart.
Family, Forgiveness, and a Villain You’ll Love to Hate
Krista’s story is not only about danger from outside forces. She also struggles to forgive her own mother, a woman who sacrificed Krista’s career to protect a secret. As the mother’s manipulation deepens, she even withholds medical treatment for Braden’s niece to control him. It is a gut-punch moment that had us talking long after we finished the book.
Themes of forgiveness and grace run throughout Deadly Currents. Characters are reminded that we live in a fallen world, and nothing will ever be perfect here. That truth does not make the pain easier, but it does point toward the hope readers of Christian fiction come back for again and again.

Looking Back at the Hidden Bay Series
With Deadly Currents, the Hidden Bay series wraps with three books, three heroines, and three heroes worth rooting for. Between Storm Warning, Perilous Tides, and Deadly Currents, twists kept coming until the very last page. Choosing a favorite is nearly impossible, though we lean toward book two as an overall standout.
